Search Engines (50 products)

[edit] Brief Description

A search engine is a software designed to retrieve information for specified keywords. The information can be stored on personal computers, inside a network or on websites. There are more kinds of search engines, the most popular ones are web search engines like Google, Yahoo! search. Other kinds are enterprise search engines, personal search engines and mobile search engines. The elements of a search engine are: the robot (spider or crawler), the indexer and the algorithm. The software gets its information by sending the robot or spider to fetch all the documents it can find. After that is the indexer’s job to index the information according to words contained in each document. The algorithm is used so that only meaningful results should be returned for each request. For this to happen, the search engine gives each document a relevant score which reflects the number of times the keyword appears in the document, if it appears in the title, at the beginning of the document and so on.
