=Description= The security & vulnerability management software is created in order to provide the user with an in-depth analysis of a computer/network system. They are created to pinpoint security flaws or potential vulnerabilities to attacks. =How they work= In general the tools will examine a network system in various ways that a hacker might use in order to break in. This will give points of vulnerability, for example on a defined basis. The lowest level of security will mean that a hacker might take control of the network completely, while on the highest security no information is leaked, or unapproved outside access is gained. This should always be done before the product or network is put to use in real life. Some of the most used methods in managing product/system/network vulnerability are scanning for potential vulnerabilities, reporting the efficiency, suggesting possible fixes, comparing the network security to a previous state. =What to look for= **The differences between a paid and a free product will also mean the difference between quality or functionality and simply running some tests. This doesn’t necessary means that free products are bad, it just means that a paid product will generally enable the network administrator or developer to receive security certificates, by proving that the network is safe. **The top product in this class is Appscan that will offer numerous certifications and vulnerability management, at a cost. Currently Appscan can be used in order to assess the lever of exposure of a network, create low level analysis of potential risks, and suggest ways of improving security.<br />[[Image: bully/0-1425-i-129183-00.jpg]]<br />[[Image: bully/appscan.JPG]]<br />[[Image: bully/sshot-appscan.JPG]] =Discussion boards= *[http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/linux-hardware-18/utm-unified-threat-management-security-device-wanted.-518442/ LinuxQuestions.org] *[http://www.smokey-services.eu/forum/viewpost.php?p=1536 Smokey Services Forum] *[http://pressreleaseforum.com/viewtopic.php?p=6937 Press Release Forum] =See Also= *[http://www.google.com/patents?hl=ro&lr=&vid=USPAT7225466&id=9B-AAAAAEBAJ&oi=fnd&dq=+%22threat+management%22+articles Systems and methods for message threat management] *[http://ieeexplore.ieee.org/xpl/freeabs_all.jsp?arnumber=1405975 Personalized email management at network edges] *[http://www.healthedialogue.com.au/content/documents/Intelligent%20agents%20and%20e-commerce.pdf Intelligent agents and e-commerce]
