This is a great start for a beginner. Blogger is really easy to use and... free. There's a huge online database of questions answered so whenever you get stuck you can consult it to find your way out of trouble. I especially like the WYSIWYG editor, the templates available and the video tagging. On the downside, since Blogger is so popular it's also exposed to spammers. The solution they implemented lacks quality as it blocks clean content also so you might find yourself stuck on the splog (blog spam) blacklist.
