Community Server is a full-featured forum system that is integrated into a content management system. It includes a gallery, file management, blogs and a portal system. Everything is developed in ASP.NET programming language. Because of that you need to be running on a Microsoft IIS web server with .NET 1.1 or 2.0 and Microsoft SQL Server. Monthly web hosting costs for this setup are slightly more expensive than the typical LAMP (Linux Apache MySQL PHP) solution. And more than that if you’re running on a Windows server platform you should be comfortable programming in .NET. Another big problem of any Microsoft product (software developed in .NET included) is that there are bugs with Safari and with Firefox. What I really liked on Community Server is the user interface (both users and administrators). I have to admit, is a bit slow but I was really impressed by its presentation.
