Whenever I accidentally remove something from my hard drive, I have to use Foremost to recover it. I have to specify a file header and footer for the file, and Foremost will recover the internal data structure. I was able to work on files generated by dd, since that’s the tool I worked with for a long time, and Foremost was able to recover data for it. Interesting tool, and I do hope I don’t have to use it too often – but I guess you can never be too safe.
