HTML-Kit has taught me html. There is no WYSIWYG editor to mangle your code but an easy preview button. Tons of plug-ins, my favourites are batch find and replace and one I made myself with no coding needed. Of course it is also free.

This is a great piece of software, too bad the latest version isn't free. One other problem I encountered is the lack of compatibility with XHTML 1.1. What I love about it is the colored CSS syntax and the auto fill. To be honest, I think it's the next best thing to Macromedia's Dreamweaver.

Awesome product. It's really customizable, and can write/edit pretty much anything. The plug-in ability puts this at the top of my list for free editors. I haven't found a flaw yet.
