Jena is a very reliable and complex tool. It is suited for creating large Semantic Web Applications like, for example, ITerating. Making a proper use of Jena requires not only a good understanding of RDF but also knowledge about how Jena itself works. Otherwise it can be very misleading and turn out as tricky to write code in some situations. That's why it's a good advice to listed to the authors when they say: "Implementing too quickly, without first understanding the RDF data model, leads to frustration and disappointment." Found out myself how very true that is :) Once you've understood how it works, you can implement practically anything you need for your application, and quickly.

We've used jena to build the ITerating site and are very happy with it. If you want to follow the Semantic Web approach, this is the way to go. Jena is well documented, reliable, pretty complete, and the (free) support has been amazing!

A very good framework for the semantic web, java makes it a snap to use with jsps, provides an object wrapper around rdf, owl... very nice.

If you want to develop an aplication based on RDF structure, Jena definetly fits your needs. Nearly everything you need about RDF is implemented here. However, given that RDF is a pretty complicated way of representing information, speed is not really the best feature of Jena. It also has a few bugs.
