Once a great piece of file sharing software, it has become victim of its own success. While I would not discuss the legal issues of file sharing activities (yes, 99% of it is probably copyright infringement material), the technical side is brilliant, files are downloaded quickly and seamlessly, while sharing does not overload bandwidth, even though available files to be shared scanning could be more efficient (it might take a while to get the application fully started once you have 100+ files to be shared). However, its overwhelming success, due partly thanks to its flexibility (I remember half the student on my former campus used to run it, as LimeWire was one of the few that would bypass the firewalls), has led groups of squatters and other individuals with questionable interests to pollute its search results with bogus entries, up to a point where searches become slow and meaningless.
