The first WYSIWYM editor (What you see is what you mean)
LyX is a great WYSIWYG word processor that I would gladly recommend to anyone that needs an alternative to Microsoft Office. It offers both basic and advanced features for editing documents like text formatting, spellchecking, multi-language support, tables, footnotes, lists and equations. It's easy to install, intuitive and it doesn't eat up your computer resources. The user interface is not that great, but you can easily switch to a Mac OS X version. It also allows both import and export of LaTeX documents. And best of all, it's free and open source.
