Sun Microsystems is maintaining its high standards for product quality with NetBeans. The IDE has a lot of features that are not present in other editors and will help make developers more productive. One of the highlights of NetBeans is its ease of integration with other products and tools. This is evident from the list of vendors creating plugins for NetBeans. If NetBeans can make improvements at this rate, it will soon have a user base that rivals Eclipse. Eclipse and NetBeans are all set to conquer the IDE market in the next few years. This competition is good for developers as we can expect better features from both the products as the competition heats up.

From the start I would like to specify that I only used NetBeans for developing MIDP applications so this comment may not be relevant to all who read it. NetBeans IDE has everything you could want from a free development tool: easy to use enviroment, excelent flexibility, stability and good documentation. It integrates itself with cvs quite easy and most of the major phone producers have JDKswith phone emulator for this IDE. The main draw-back is the low speed but keeping in mind that it's free... overall, a great job done by Sun.
