Most people need very little out of a spreasheet app. For those people web-based application are ideal, like google spreadsheets. Then there are excel power users. In the financial industry, there is heavy use of excel, charts of 10,000 points are not uncommon, very heavy formula are used all the time. For all of this, OOo calc is ridiculously slow and unusuable. Try plotting a 10,000+ points graph.
