The application for process images
If you want an application that has all the features you could need when editing your photos you have to try Adobe Photoshop. It has many simple ways of basic editing like changing the contrast, luminosity, saturation or color filters that are very easy to use. But, it also has many advanced filters like sharp, blur, noise, pixelate or texture filter. Of course, it support layers for creating more complex effects too. Lately, Adobe tried to add some functionalities for web designers too, like creating slices but i don't see it "yet" as a real competitor for Fireworks. But now that Adobe bought Macromedia probably they won't try that anymore. The last version, CS3, brought an increased speed for Mac Users, workflow improvements, a more-streamlined interface and a better black-and-white conversion. Also, they gave up on using ImageReady. Anyway, Photoshop it's a great software for professionals or ambitious amateur digital artists. The only real problem i can find is the price that is up to 650 US dollars.

photoshop
In large scale, photoshop is GREAT, BUT on every version he has differents bugs, and in my point of view that it stupid. I will give you an exemple : CS 2 is the most stable until now but he moves VERY slow, if you install over 2000 fonts you will wait even 5 minute to load, but in CS3 is loading very FAST but he is very unstable, on the same computer i cannot load 3 psd files each having 30 MB without crashing it. To end this PS is the best graphic 2D program on the market right now (leaving this "small" errors behind) , and the competion lost some ground.

CS2 works fine for me

Indeed CS2 looks like it helds the optimum bugs/performance ratio so far. What I hate the most in this version is[...]

It helps me
It's very useful for photographers and web designers...It has lots of functions and other features but I think the layout should be more modern ; with 3d buttons and frequent updates I use this program very often, actually everyday and it really helps me.All the best from me

10 (ten)
If you're a great employee, you can afford to be late for work. It's kinda the same thing about photoshop: although it does have some bugs and crashes sometimes without giving you the chance to recover your work, (as when creativity takes over, you sometimes forget to press CTLR+S), all these get forgotten when you know the overwhelming power this program grants to its users. In conclusion, It deserves the awarded ten.

The App (with caps)
This application has it all, at least if you have something to do with imaging. Either if you need to do photo edtiting, creating graphics, designing, vector drawing, with PS you can! It is somehow difficult to start using it but once you "get it" is very powerful. If you are newbie looking for a "simple" image editing software probably this is not it. However if you do go down that road you will find a huge community that can be very helpful. There are tutorials, forums, actions, etc. A "downside" it is _really_ expensive.
