Getting there...
Ubuntu is meant to be "linux for humans". I've used kubuntu, the KDE version of ubuntu. It's definitely a big improvement from other linux distributions, but it's still pretty far from your grandmother's operating system. Installing programs still require all sorts of tricks, and of course there is still a big issue of driver compatibility for HW devices, even of more is done on this everyday. Overall, more work needed to get to Mark Shuttleworth's goal of the OS for the rest of us...
