Description

Ubuntu was created by Mark Shuttleworth to make linux accessible to the masses. The original tag line was " It now goes with a much more tame tag line "Ubuntu is a community developed, linux-based operating system that is perfect for laptops, desktops and servers". Either way, its main goal is to provide a serious alternative to windows on the desktop.

Adoption

While the ultimate goal is to compete windows everywhere, right now the adoption has been mostly restricted to tech fans. Yet the number of estimated downloads is in the hundreds of thousands
