It bothers me that I'm not able to create a poll, to use emoticons or to add attachments to posts. These are some of the most important features of a forum software and they're missing from Vanilla. One the other hand it seems to be fast, secure and reliable, and you can use it any way you like (with the use of the add-ons available): even transform it in a bug tracking system. GPL licensing in another big plus.
