You know those books "The complete idiot's guide to.." ? That's not wordpress. For utter novices, I would recommend blogger. If you're serious about blogging, Wordpress is the way to go. Sure, you do have to be a little web savy to use it. It's a big girl's / boy's toy. Don't worry if you're not though. All you need is 30 minutes of a web savy friend's time, The Wordpress Codex and you're good to go. Not only can you make it look nice, you can make it do some pretty awesome things once you get to know each other, from user tracking, to SEO to plain old fun. Based on "do it right or don't do it at all" - use Wordpress or don't blog. No, I'm just kidding :) , there's lots of great stuff out there. Wordpress is definetly the best however.

Wordpress.com is a very cool tool offered to anybody who wants to have their own weblog. Unlike other free blogging platforms and hosted blogging services, Wordpress.com is not orientated on the community side and has much more features and possibilities to customize it. In exchange of all the freedom and flexibility that Wordpress.com offers, it requires that users have some CSS and HTML knowledge. Sure, it’s not the easiest to use weblog application, but weblogs created with Wordpress.com look definitely the most professional. And more than that, the interface for administration is a great example of usability. Anyway, using Wordpress.com for setting up a weblog with standard features and a usual design you will only need a few minutes for creating an account and other few minutes to configure it. For me, 15 minutes were enough. Do I have to say more?
