If you’re obsessed with owning digital libraries of your music, then YaRET is the tool for you. If you’re wondering what YaRET is – a Perl program that is designed to encode music from your CD’s. You place the CD in your computer, type “yaret”, and all the music in encoded on your hard drive. The basic default values will work for most of us, but if you feel you need to change the bit rate, or any other encoding feature, just open the configuration file and work your magic. Also, it has access to CDDB (the place to pick artist or track names, and embed them in the encoded file. Neat tool, but I feel that I have to add – if you like listening to music, please buy the original album. It’s better to support the things we love.
