Zen Cart is an open source e-commerce application. It is based on PHP, using the Apache web server and a MySQL database. Zen Cart is providing support for many languages and currencies. It uses a XHTML template system to implement different layouts for pages and it has features like multiple customer modes, unlimited category depth, discounts, newsletter manager.

Description

Zen Cart is a free and open source ecommerce application developed in PHP programming language and using a MySQL database by a group of enthusiastic shop owners, programmers and consultants. It was first based on osCommerce, but it changed a lot it time, now the most important feature it has is the template system, based on XHTML.

Zen Cart has the basic features any shopping cart needs and some HTML and programming knowledges are welcomed for customize it as needed. Being a free product, there is no formal support offered so the community forums are the best choice for getting answers.

Being an open source solution its competitors are other free applications or the low cost ones. For example, good alternatives for ZenCart are:

System requirements

Zen Cart is developed in PHP using a MySQL database and any UNIX, Linux, Mac OSX, Windows server with PHP 4 (or more) and MySQL can be used.
