ZoneMinder is a neat tool, designed for the security of the Linux users. It’s not for software security, against viruses, but against theft, or for home control. All it needs is a video camera attached to a Linux workstation, regardless of how that is done – it supports various USB cameras, BTTV cards with cameras attached or even IP network cameras. I was amazed to see that it is suitable for use as a home video security system and for commercial or professional video security and surveillance. I used it for a brief period of time at the office, to supervise the supply door, and check whoever went in, and for what – that way we found out who was stealing the sugar. I give ZoneMinder a good mark on my list, and I do think that this kind of tools, to automate video security have opened the door to many and useful applications.
