I used it on http://nyxsis-ro.com/discuss/ and it.s simple and fast. On it's home page the documentation is well organized. Simplicity must be the key feature.

Very simple and easy to use
bbPress is a forum software developed by Automattic (yes, the Wordpress creators). I've got to their website "by accident" and I saw the "Code is Poetry" in the footer's site. I knew that I have to try it. When I did that I can't say I was impressed, but either disappointed. Is a simple and clean application, very usable and very, very simple to use (both for users and administrators). After installing it looks a bit too simple, but if you know some HTML / PHP / CSS you can adapt-it in any way you need. I think is one of the best solutions for small forums that don't need many features.

I find it difficult to use because it resembles a blog (that's because it's a "forum software with a twist from the creators of WordPress") and that can be confusing to members. I wouldn't recommend it to anybody that wants to gather a big community.
