Oracle Berkeley DB is an open source embeddable database engine that facilitates developers with a reliable, fast engine that requires almost zero administration. Oracle Berkeley DB is a library linking directly to your application. You can access the database from the application With rather simple function calls, and not by the usual back and forth messages to a remote server, eliminating the performance penalty of client-server architectures. Oracle Berkeley DB obsoletes, in my view, the overhead of SQL query processing, enabling applications with predictable access patterns to run faster. Also, the entire system can be upgraded by Berkley DB without any downtime for the database, thanks to their live update system implementation.
