Operating system for embedded applications
eCos, an open source, real time, operating system for embedded applications, proved to be an amazing piece of software. I mean that because of the fact that the highly configurable nature allowed the operating system to be set up to precise application requirements. On of the major technical features that got my eye was the fact that the configuration system allowed me to write the application with imposed requirements on the runtime components, both in terms of functionality and implementation. This is said as a contradiction to the fact that an operating system has constrained the application’s own implementation.
