Even if there were a lot of problems with the development of previous versions of gzip and here i talk about the vulnerability that could cause some denials of service, discovered in the 1.3.5 version of this package, the latest release (10 sarge2), is more stable and it seems that all the bugs have been fixed. I have to say that is recommended to upgrade your program even if you are satisfied with some previous version of it because those previous versions may also be affected by that kind of bug, and if you have a vulnerable system it can be exploited.
