I like phpBB, but I find the lack of updates over the last few years disturbing.

A great tool with minor security and spam problems
PhpBB is one of the most used open-source forum software. Because of that is has a huge community of developers that are interested in extending PhpBB. The installation of PhpBB is usually very easy to do, being necessary only to copy the files on your web server. Practically, setting up this forum is a very simple task if you don't wand to many customizations. For simple ones, there is a administration backend you can use that allows you change many things, from colors to number of posts per page and others. A minus for PhpBB are the security issues that appear being so used. Because of that is good to upgrade the forum on every new release. Also, PhpBB has some spam problem, but this are fixable. Anyay, there are annoyingly present at installation.
