I always felt that re2c was a great tool, and I’ve been disappointed that it was left and forgotten for quite some time, and unfortunately didn't even compile with newer versions of gcc. I've used re2c in a few of my projects and it just felt wrong that it still had a few bugs which need to be fixed as well as some new features that would be nice to add.
